We're thrilled to announce that @WorldAquatics has officially lifted the suspension on Kenya Aquatics, which has been in place since 2019. Our Kenyan swimmers are free to make a splash on the global stage, pic.twitter.com/2irifUzxgP
The trials, as per Kenya Aquatics’ calendar of events for the 2023-24 season that started in July this year, will be for two more events on the calendar; the 15th Africa Aquatics Junior Swimming and Open Water Championships in Mauritius, and the World Aquatics Championships in Doha next year.
The former will be organized by Africa Aquatics on 6-10 December, and time trials used for the Kenyan swimmers will be based on top points from last May’s and November’s times.
Kenya in the recent international events since confirmation of suspension for failing to conduct elections, has seen Kenyan swimmers participate under a neutral flag, but with this month’s electoral process done and ratified, normal services will resume for the sport in the country.
Among the benefits that the country stands to benefit with the lifting of the suspension includes: international exposure for the Kenyan swimmers, access to resources for sport development, development of grassroot swimming programs and a revitalized sports program seeking to foster the rise and growth of local talent.
In the concluded polls, the federation will be led by Dr. Maureen Owiti as the President, flanked by two vice-presidents - Stanley Kaberu and Hillary Seru - with Collins Marigiri serving as the Secretary General.
